Well, here I am! Just moved over from Livejournal with the kind help of annalee. First of all, thank you! I'm excited to explore dreamwidth and deeply hope to avoid those on livejournal who forced me out of communities...very lame indeed!

Alas, as it is currently reading period I should have very little to say. Instead I ought to go finish my paper so I may study Japanese for the next two days.

I'm considering trying to start up a comm for steampunk craftsmen that's actually dedicated to steampunk craft--all the lj ones all seemed to turn into sales communities, events communities, "look at this cute vest I just got at Forever21" communities, or LOOK I AM A MOD BOW BEFORE ME communities.

It would be nice to have a home for people what actually make things to show+share.

Word up! I'm so sick of the mods going crazy! I would totally join your community and do my best to keep up frequent posting! Though, I think the "look at this cute vest I just got at Forever21" can have its value if they show they can compile an outfit proper WITH the vest, not just show the vest. Or if they somehow edit the vest...I think you get what I mean : )

Oh, I've got no problem with edited/altered garments, or with a full outfit that has some purchased components. I just want a space primarily designed for those who make. Not just clothes, either--I steampunked my computer case, and my brother's a total mad scientist.

I wouldn't even really mind people including the occasional etsy link, as long as it was "Hey, check out this awesome $foo I made! Btw, I'm on Etsy" and not just "Look at this picture of my latest Etsy product!"

Hmm. What do you think a good name would be? Steamcraft? Steamcrafters? Cogsandcorsets? Gaslampgear?

I think that last one might be perceived as too much of a rip off a certain lj comm we both left, sadly. Perhaps username Steamcrafters with Cogs and Corsets in the title. Suggestions?

I like Steamcraft or Steamcrafters.

You could go for some neat alliteration and be like: A Community for Crafting Corsets with Cogs or something. Haha.
